ABOUT US

The one who likes to sing along

And always has a perfect song,

The one whose stories come to life,

The one who resolves any kind of strife.

The one who dares, the one who plays,

The one who entertains in so many ways.

Being versatile is her special feature,

She, indeed, is an English teacher.

Hello everybody,

We are two English teachers working in primary school Vugrovec-Kašina. As the years have passed by, we have learned we are not here just for the money and the fame.

Teaching language, especially a foreign language, is always a challenge. Combining grammar, vocabulary, listening and reading skills and comprehension isn't always easy. Young learners' attention span is short and therefore you need to change activities rapidly in order to maintain a positive learning climate. If you've ever worked with young learners you've learned that the best way to teach them basically anything is through games. The more the merrier.

However, what about teenagers? Have you ever tried entertaining pre-teen twelve-year-olds, or even worse, the eight-graders?

If you don't want to stick to the textbook and workbook, the old paper-pencil combination, you will soon encounter some serious preparations and your twenty-something weekly shift won't provide you with enough time to come up with enough fun activities. If there is a hard audience, be sure that teenagers are the hardest to please.

What we've learned is that teens like playing games as well as younger children and their attention span is sometimes even worse than that of the toddlers. Sometimes they're up, sometimes they're down, and you have to get on that freakishly fast rollercoaster, fasten your seatbelt and go with the flow.

What do we do? Oh, we pretend we’re happy as a clown, and that is contagious. We dress ourselves up, hide pots of gold, prepare tea parties, make them dress up as Pilgrims, force them to drink a proper English tea, bake dark beer muffins, serve ham with cranberry sauce... you name it!

If you still can’t imagine what it feels like to be an English teacher, you should browse up and down our page and enter our little teacher-student microsystem we have developed over the years.
